About Nicole Font

Hello! My name is Nicole Font and I am a graduating senior at High Point University, where I am studying elementary education. From my first year on campus, I have engaged in first-hand experiences in classrooms ranging from kindergarten to sixth grade. Additionally, I have worked in a variety of schools, including private, public, and charter schools, and with students categorized as Exceptional Children and Academically Gifted. Most recently, I have worked extensively with lower elementary students on foundational reading skills and upper elementary students on math and science.

In addition to my experience at High Point University, I have engaged in a number of leadership and professional development programs to enrich my experience and hone my skills as a future educator. In May 2015, I visited the Ron Clark Academy and was "Slide Certified." I have received training in LEGO Education products, and have earned a Project Wild Certification.

From May 2016 to August 2016, I participated in an unpaid internship with Melissa Aguilar, an Educational Consultant and President of Phoenix Educational Support Services. Through my experience with Mrs. Aguilar, I worked with charter schools throughout Miami-Dade County and Broward County in Florida to understand approaches to data analysis, work with administrators, and gain valuable experiences that will enhance my abilities as an educator.

Currently, I am student teaching at Friendship Elementary School in Davidson County, North Carolina. I am teaching 3rd grade. Over the course of my time at FES, I have worked with my cooperating teacher and third grade team to design instructional and educational initiatives for my students. Additionally, I am working to maintain positive behavior management strategies and build rapport with students and their families.

Although I am highly involved in extracurriculars at High Point University, I have always considered my education and my future as a teacher the most important to my university life. As a result, I have been honored with membership to several elite honor societies including Kappa Delta Pi (International Education Honor Society), the National Society of Leadership and Success, Alpha Chi (National College Honor Society), and Who's Who in American Colleges and Universities. Most recently, however, I was named a Junior Marshal at High Point University, a distinction for forty juniors with the highest cumulative GPA in the junior class.

Prior to my enrollment at High Point University, I attended Palmer Trinity School in Miami, Florida, where I graduated with high honors, and St. Thomas Episcopal Parish School in Coral Gables, Florida.
