I visited my student once a week for several weeks. The first four weeks were spent getting to know the student as a reader and understanding the strategies he used to understand text. I administered four reading assessments:
- A reading interest survey and inventory
- A book handling and print concepts assessment
- A phonological awareness assessment
- An oral reading and text reconstruction analysis
Based on the results of the assessments, I developed several lesson plan recommendations from which I could choose. Each of the lessons addressed the specific needs of my student based on the assessment results. Once I had developed several lessons, I chose five of the best lesson plans to carry out with my student.
