AIG Assessment Profile

For this project, I created a comparative analysis of five gifted identification assessments. The assessments that I chose were the Otis-Lennon School Ability Test, the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children, the Peabody Picture Analysis Test, the Kaufman Assessment Battery for Children, and the Torrance Test of Creative Thinking. Click here for the project.

The assignment required me to create a graphic organizer using the following information:
  • Suggested uses of the assessment: age range of students, cultural uses, identification uses etc.
  • Description of the assessment
  • Description of how the assessment is scored
  • Reliability and validity of the assessment
  • Use of this assessment in the gifted program in your school/district?
The last bullet of requested information, the use of this assessment in the gifted program in your school/district, could not be answered because I am not a practicing teacher and do not have a "district." However, I looked into the district of Davidson County, which has specific AIG Placement Criteria and Testing Procedures. There are three "pathways" through which a student may be placed into a gifted program.

The first pathway requires the student to meet 1 criteria of the options. On the aptitude test, a student must score in the:
  • 98th percentile or above the composite
  • 98th percentile or above on Verbal Subtest (Reading Only)
  • 98th percentile or above on Nonverbal and Quantitative Subtests (Math Only)
  • The second pathway requires the student to meet all 3 criteria. On the aptitude test, a student must score in the 93rd percentile or above on any Subtest or Composite. On the achievement test, a student must score in the 93rd percentile or above on Reading or Math EOG. And the student must have a 93% average or above in a specific subject area.
The third pathway requires students to score in the 85th percentile or higher on both aptitude and achievement tests for consideration. Once considered, students must meet 4 out of the following 5 criteria to qualify:
  • Aptitude test: 93rd percentile or above on Subtest or Composite
  • Achievement test: 93rd percentile or above on EOG
  • Grades: 93% average or above in Specific Subject area
  • Student motivation: 30+ on the Observation Checklist
  • Student performance: School generated performance assessment with scaled score 4 on system rubric
Although there is no information about which aptitude test is recommended or used to determine eligibility for the gifted program, the school uses this as a primary indicator of giftedness and the student's need for service.
